China’s actions ‘not those of a friend’: Tony Abbott ‘puzzled’ by government response
Former prime minister Tony Abbott admits he is “puzzled” by the Albanese government’s response to China’s actions toward Australian military.
The latest incident occurred on Saturday when a Chinese fighter jet dropped flares in front of an Australian Seahawk helicopter in the Yellow Sea.
It has since come to light there has been no attempt by Australian ministers to contact China over the confrontation.
“This is now the third time Australian military personnel have been endangered by the actions of Chinese ships, and planes,” Mr Abbott told Sky News host Peta Credlin.

“We have undoubtedly been acting within our perfect rights in international waters, and international airspace.
“These are not the actions of a friend.
“What puzzles me is why the government is so keen to role out the red carpet for the Chinese premier next month, given this is how China is currently treating us.”
