A number of flood alerts are in place in Nottinghamshire, including for the River Trent. Pictured is a file photo of flooding in Gunthorpe from early January.

Flood alerts have been issued across Nottinghamshire after spells of heavy and light rain hit the county last night. The Environment Agency has put in place four alerts, meaning flooding is possible, in the area today (Sunday, February 18), which includes parts of the River Erewash and River Maun, as well as River Trent tributaries.

Ilkeston, Stapleford, Clipstone, Edwinstowe, and Ollerton are among the areas set to be affected. It comes after a yellow weather warning was issued by the Met Office for parts of Nottinghamshire.

The weather warning was in place from 3pm yesterday (Saturday, February 17) until 9am this morning (Sunday, February 18). As a result of persistent heavy rainfall river levels have risen in some parts of the county.

The Environment Agency confirmed they are ‘closely monitoring’ the areas where flood alerts have been put in place. Across the East Midlands the forecast on Monday (February 19) states: “Band of rain and showers clearing to the east through the early morning, to give another fine and dry day with plenty of sunny spells. Mild. Maximum temperature 12 °C.”

For the outlook for Tuesday to Thursday, the Met Office said: “Becoming more changeable through the week, with spells of wet and windy weather likely at times across all three days. Staying mild throughout.”
