"Shrinkflation": des affichettes sur les produits concernés dès juillet

L’étiquette apposée par Carrefour sur les produits concernés par la “shrinkflation”.

Dès le 1er juillet, obligation sera faite aux distributeurs d’informer leurs clients lorsque des produits ont vu leur quantité baisser sans que leur prix ne diminue, selon un arrêté publié au Journal officiel samedi 4 mai. Tous les supermarchés de plus de 400 mètres carrés en France auront l’obligation d’apposer une étiquette ou une affichette “visible” et “lisible” à proximité, ou même directement sur l’emballage, de tous les produits concernés par la “shrinkflation”, indique l’arrêté du ministère de l’Economie.

La “shrinkflation”, ou réduflation, est le procédé qui consiste, pour les fabricants de produits de grande consommation, agro-industriels ou distributeurs, à réduire les quantités des produits vendus en gardant un prix identique. Une stratégie permettant de ne pas augmenter significativement les prix, dans un contexte où les tarifs de l’alimentaire ont déjà augmenté de 20% en deux ans. C’est par exemple un tube de dentifrice à l’emballage identique qu’auparavant, mais au poids allégé, qui voit pourtant son prix inchangé.

Certains industriels n’hésitent pas non plus à augmenter les prix tout en réduisant les quantités, c’est le cas par exemple de fabricants de chips ou de soda, comme le listait un article de BFM.

Certaines denrées pas concernées

Les consommateurs retrouveront la formule consacrée par le texte: “pour ce produit, la quantité vendue est passée de X à Y et son prix au (préciser l’unité de mesure concernée) a augmenté” de tel pourcentage ou de telle somme en euro. Les denrées alimentaires et les produits non alimentaires commercialisés dans une quantité (poids, volume) constante sont visés par l’arrêté. Les denrées alimentaires en vrac ou préemballées dont la quantité peut varier à la préparation, comme celles au rayon traiteur des supermarchés, sont en revanche exclues.

Certains distributeurs, s’ils réclament cette transparence, déploraient de ne pas avoir la capacité opérationnelle d’y répondre. Le président de Système U estimait que c’était aux industriels de communiquer sur les changements de composition ou de grammage.
