2 suspects in street sweeper’s slay identified
MANILA, Philippines — Two men who shot dead a street sweeper in Taguig on Friday have been identified, the Southern Police District reported.
The SPD said that based on a witness’ account, the two men it named only as Eñaque, 36, and Byron shot Jonna Liza Mendoza, 39, as she was talking with a co-worker near a convenience store in Barangay Rizal on Feb. 16.
Investigators found that Eñaque was charged with murder in September 2023, illegal gambling and possession of illegal drugs in December 2018 and robbery in January 2015.
Eñaque also blamed the victim for the recent arrest of his partner, police said.
According to the SPD, the discovery “sheds light on a vendetta that fueled the attack.”
Police also found that Mendoza had been arrested for illegal drugs and violation of Executive Order 23 in October 2020.
