Trump urged Senate not to vote for foreign aid package

Former U.S. President Donald Trump urged not to approve financial aid from the United States to other countries. The statement was made during the Senate’s consideration of a bill to allocate a $95 billion aid package for a group of countries, including Ukraine, reports the Truth Social network.

Trump emphasized that the U.S. should not provide financial assistance to any country “unless it is structured as a loan.” He believes that funds should only be borrowed under extremely favorable conditions, “for example, interest-free and for an unlimited term.”

Furthermore, according to the Republican leader, such a deal should be accompanied by additional conditions from the U.S.

“We should never give money anymore without the hope of a payback, or without ‘strings’ attached. The United States of America should be ‘stupid’ no longer!” wrote the former president.

It is worth noting that during his speech to supporters in South Carolina on Saturday, February 10, Trump reiterated that he is ready to “settle” the war in Ukraine on his own.

Financial aid from the USA for Ukraine

On February 8, the U.S. Senate blocked a jointly developed bill by Democrats and Republicans providing assistance to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, which included measures to protect the southern border of the United States.

The Senate decided to reconsider the assistance bill for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, but this time without including immigration reform and border security.

On the same day, the U.S. Senate began reviewing a bill allocating funds to support Ukraine and Israel. Currently, debates are ongoing, during which senators are proposing their amendments. After the conclusion of debates and the consideration of amendments, the document will be brought to a final vote in the Senate.

Subsequently, the bill will be considered by the U.S. House of Representatives, which previously failed to pass votes on other financial aid packages for Ukraine and other countries, partly due to pressure from Trump on lawmakers.
