Cape Town City’s Tinkler left dispirited

This is a tough DStv Premiership. Cape Town City have not won a game in nine fixtures. Coach Eric Tinkler has said he feels confused.

DSTV PREMIERSHIP: POLOKWANE CITY 2-2 CAPE TOWN CITY

The team known as the Citizens were dreaming of finishing in second place a few months ago. Unfortunately for Cape Town City, even a place in the top eight is looking at risk. Coach Tinkler has gone as far as blaming himself for Khanyisa Mayo‘s goal drought.

“That’s the nature of the beast, you know, top goal scorer because he’s a good goal scorer. [When the] top goal scorer is not scoring it’s because the coach is not getting him to score, that’s the nature of the beast, massive,” the Cape Town City coach said via SABC Sport.

“Obviously, it’s a concern, we’re a very ambitious club that want to achieve things you know. Now, we’ve gotta go back, reset then next game against Arrows,” Tinkler added.

“Effort today [Sunday] I thought was much much better which is something I wanted to see from the players. They put in the effort, in some of the games they haven’t. It’s not easy, everybody thinks that it’s easy to come here and get three points against Polokwane, no it’s a fight, it’s a battle,” Tinkler added.

“Very little, because like I said you know we’ve been doing this now for three years and if you haven’t learnt it by now then I don’t know, then when are you gonna learn? The fact that we’re still making the same mistakes three years down the track is a little bit confusing to me. So, that’s obviously something that I need to deal with,” the Cape Town City tactician concluded.

TOUGH DSTV PREMIESRHIP GAMES

Looking at the remaining games, the men in blue and yellow won’t have it so easy. The next five games for Cape Town City include fixtures against the likes of Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns, including a battle against the relegation-fighting Richards Bay.
