Canada’s Competition Bureau is investigating Lululemon
Canada’s corporate watchdog is investigating Lululemon. An environmental group says it asked the Competition Bureau to examine whether Lululemon’s claims about its environmental impact are false and misleading. Lululemon made almost $10 billion in net revenue last year and Team Canada athletes will wear the brand at this year’s Olympics. The firm has committed to using 75% sustainable materials by next year, and the 2020 B Planet campaign claims our products and actions avoid environmental harm and contribute to restoring a healthy planet. What we’ve learned over the last two years, really, is that that kind of image is not much more than a facade. Advocacy group Stand Earth as the Competition Bureau to investigate. Lululemon’s yearly reports show more than 60% of their clothing is made from polyester and nylon, which are made from fossil fuels. And the reports show the company’s greenhouse gas emissions increased nearly 26% from 2021 to 2022. Stan Earth wants the campaign withdrawn the company to apologize. And to pay up to 3% of their worldwide gross revenue, worth millions of dollars to climate mitigation. Global News asked Lululemon for comment, but did not hear back by deadline.
