The New Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid Combines Power and Purpose

In 2023, the local automotive industry seemed to be on the cusp of a revolutionary era of sustainable mobility. What’s ironic is that electrification isn’t exactly new.

Although Porsche has always been a pioneer on technical innovations, we bet you didn’t know that Ferdinand Porsche was the pioneer of battery-powered mobility and designed the first-ever hybrid car. It was unveiled as a prototype in 1900 over a century before the first Cayenne Hybrid, considered the first electrified Porsche of the modern era, was launched in 2010. Porsche worked with the Vienna-based k.u.k. Hofwagenfabrik Ludwig Lohner & Co to create the world’s first-ever hybrid car: the Semper Vivus. It had a combustion engine that powered a generator that, in turn, sent a charge to the wheel hubs to drive them.
