Coalition introduces bill to compensate passengers for delayed or cancelled flights

Passengers who have their flights delayed or cancelled could soon benefit from compensation.

The Coalition is attempting to pass new legislation through the Senate that could compel airlines to refund passengers for delays.

The legislation would also set out their obligation to customers more clearly.

This is after more passengers have had longer waits for replacement flights since before the pandemic.

“Australians deserve an aviation industry where planes take off and arrive on time, and their bags arrive with them,” Nationals Senator Bridget McKenzie and Liberal Senator Dean Smith said in a statement.

“The Pay on Delay Bill is designed to clean up Australia’s airline industry through ensuring concrete protections for passengers to, from and within Australia and its territories in the event of flight delays, cancellations, or denials of boarding.”
