Boston Bruins prospect Georgii Merkulov had a solid first full season with the Providence Bruins in 2022-23, posting 24 goals and 55 points in 67 games. After a strong campaign like this, the expectation heading into 2023-24 was that he would take another step forward. It is safe to say that he has done just that.
Merkulov, 23, has not only been Providence’s most impactful player but also one of the top players in the entire AHL. In 57 games thus far, he has 25 goals and is third in the AHL with 58 points. That is immensely impressive.

What’s more encouraging about Merkulov is that he has only heated up as the campaign has rolled on. Over his last five games, the skilled forward has two goals and seven points. He also has five goals and 10 points over his previous 10 games. That’s spectacular production.
While Merkulov was quiet during his first career recall to the Bruins earlier this season, there’s apparent reason to believe that he can become an impactful NHLer in the near future. Expect him to make a real push for an NHL job next season.
