The Los Angeles Rams are saddened by the death of a former MVP quarterback.
Roman Gabriel, a former college football star at N.C. State who became a sensational NFL quarterback, winning an MVP, died this weekend. He was 83 years old.
His family announced the tough news on social media. Gabriel reportedly died of natural causes.
“I am sad to announce my father Roman Gabriel @RGabriel4HOF passed away peacefully this morning of natural causes at his home . The entire family asked for your prayers , and to please respect our privacy 🙏🙏🙏- I love you dad,” his family announced.
Gabriel played for the Rams and the Eagles during his NFL career. The Rams are deeply saddened by his passing.
“We mourn the loss of Rams legend and football pioneer, Roman Gabriel,” the Rams said in a statement. “We extend our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Gabriel played in the NFL from 1962-1977. He was a four-time Pro Bowler and the league’s Comeback Player of the Year in 1973. Gabriel starred collegiately at N.C. State, winning back-to-back ACC Player of the Year awards.
