Javed Akhtar requests Indian Idol 14 judges Kumar Sanu and Shreya Ghoshal to sing ‘Dekha Ek Khwaab’, watch

Singing reality show Indian Idol Season 14 is all set to host screenwriter-lyricist Javed Akhtar as its special guest tonight. Singers Kumar Sanu, Shreya Ghoshal, and music composer Vishal Dadlani are on the judges’ panel of the ongoing season.

In a new promo of Indian Idol 14, Akhtar can be seen requesting Sanu and Ghoshal to sing his first song as a lyricist, “Dekha Ek Khwaab”, from the Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha and Jaya Bachchan-starrer Silsila.

In the clip, Javed Akhtar can be seen addressing Kumar Sanu and Shreya Ghoshal as he said, “Hindustan ki agar do top singers yahan baithen hain toh kyun na main request karun ki jo mera pehla gana tha, aaj aap suna dijiye (If two top singers of India are sitting here, then why shouldn’t I request them to sing my first song).”

But as soon as Sanu started to practice the song, he pronounced ‘Nigah’ as ‘Nigahon’. On this, Akhtar was very prompt in correcting him. This made Indian Idol 14’s host Hussain Kuwajerwala say, “Javed saab, ek baat batana chahta hun. Aaj pehli baar judges ko bhi thoda dara hua dekh raha hun. Ye pehle kabhi nahi hua (Javed sir, I want to tell you one thing. Today for the first time, I am seeing the judges a little scared. This has never happened before).”

On this, the screenwriter-lyricist said, “Mai sach much itna bhayanak lagta hun? (Am I this terrible?)”

Later, Shreya Ghoshal confessed on camera that she often shuffles the lyrics a lot while singing and thus she is really scared. Kumar Sanu added that he does it too. The singers then sang “Dekha Ek Khwaab”.

When Javed Akhtar was asked if the judges sang well, he gave the performance a thumbs up.

Indian Idol, now in its 14th season, began airing from October last year.
