President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Saturday had a camp visit in the 64th Infantry Battalion (64IB) in Basilan.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, Marcos called on members of the 64IB to ensure a safe and peaceful elections in 2025.

The President also praised the military for its crucial role in maintaining peace in the region and neutralizing threats.

“With the 64th Infantry Battalion, we neutralized ASG threats, facilitated the surrender of 400+ firearms, and ensured peaceful 2023 elections,” Marcos said in an Instagram as he posted photos of his visit.

He also thanked the troops for their courage as he also pledged continued support for their families.

Earlier, Marcos, together with the Bangsamoro Autonomous Government Officials, also witnessed the symbolic destruction of 400 illegal firearms that were turned over by former rebels through current peace efforts.

In his speech, Marcos said that the government would take steps to unleash Basilan’s potential as a resource-rich agricultural hub, which would help the country attain food security and ensure lasting peace.

“Basilan’s new role is now the war against hunger,” Marcos said at the “Panabang si Kasanyangan” Peace Offering Ceremony in Sumisip town.

The President assured that Basilan could count on the government to overcome its challenges, rising from its battle-scarred past into a peaceful island ripe with equitable opportunities.
