Opposition Leader Peter Dutton says the French citizen who tried to stop the Bondi Junction attacker during his stabbing rampage “embodies the Anzac spirit,” and says he supports the PM’s offer of citizenship.
Prime Minister Albanese granted “bollard man” Damien Guerot, who confronted the Bondi Junction attacker, the ability to stay in Australia for as long as he likes, even going as far as enabling him to become a citizen.
‘Bollard man’ embodies Anzac spirit: Peter Dutton supports PM’s offer of citizenship
“I support the Prime Minister’s generous offer,” Mr Dutton told media on Tuesday.
“We [Australia] are an incredible success story, and we shouldn’t be afraid of people wanting to come to our country who are the best people.
“When you look at those images of that young tourist, or young French citizen… putting his own life at risk to protect others, he embodies the Anzac spirit.
“We would want people of that character in our country so I think it’s a good call by the PM and I’m very happy to support it.”
