Am Montag musste eine AUA-Maschine mit Othmar Karas an Bord kurz nach dem Start nach Schwechat zurückkehren. Sie wurde vom Blitz getroffen.

Bange Momente erlebte am Montagnachmittag der Erste Vizepräsident des Europäischen Parlaments, Othmar Karas. Er befand sich an Bord einer AUA-Maschine, die kurz nach dem Start von einem Blitz getroffen wurde – das Flugzeug musste zurück zum Flughafen Wien-Schwechat zurückkehren. Betroffen von einem ähnlichen Problem war auch ein weiterer AUA-Flug.

Gegenüber der “Kronen Zeitung” schildert Karas die bangen Momente, spricht von einem “grellen Lichtschein”, der plötzlich aus der Wolkendecke zischte. “Ich habe neben diesem Blitz auch einen Sekundenknall vernommen und zunächst gedacht, dass das Flugzeug einen Vogel erwischt hätte”, wird er in dem Bericht zitiert.

Schon Sekunden später hätte der Pilot des Fluges, der nach Brüssel hätte gehen sollen, via Durchsage Entwarnung gegeben. Die Triebwerke seien durch den Vorfall nicht beschädigt worden, so der Kapitän. Dennoch sei die Maschine nach Schwechat zurückgekehrt. Auf dem Boden habe man dann einige “Einschlaglöcher” entdeckt, sodass in eine andere Maschine umgestiegen werden musste. Auch wenn Karas so etwas “noch nie erlebt” habe, habe er sich durch den Zwischenfall nicht bedroht gefühlt, gab er Protokoll.

Zu einem ähnlichen Vorfall war es am Montagabend auch beim Flug von Wien nach Neapel gekommen. Dieser startete verspätet um 18.23 Uhr. Im Bereich Ödenburg (Ungarn) sei auch dieses Flugzeug von einem Blitz getroffen worden, heißt es. Auch diese Maschine konnte die Reise nicht fortsetzen und musste zum Ausgangspunkt nach Niederösterreich zurückkehren.
