Harvey Norman founder Gerry Harvey has labelled the inquiry looking into price gouging consumers by supermarkets as “mostly political”.
Mr Harvey said it “appeals to the consumers” who say, “I’m paying twice as much as I should”.
“What are you going on about? The fact is it only makes three cents in the dollar do you want it to make one cent or no cents?” Mr Harvey told Sky News Business Editor Ross Greenwood.
“We all work on a very low margin. So for someone to come along and say ‘you’re gouging’ and you’re, you know, ‘you’re robbing consumers’ and all that’. Hang on a second. Look at the results.

“If I’m the government at the time, I’m going to tell people it’s not my fault I didn’t cause inflation. It’s the bloody supermarkets out there.”
