Biden gana sin oposición y Trump se impone con holgura en las primarias de Indiana

Nueva York, 7 may (EFE).- El presidente de EE.UU., Joe Biden, ganó este martes las primarias demócratas de Indiana, donde era el único candidato que figuraba en las papeletas electorales, mientras que el exmandatario Donald Trump se impuso con holgura en la versión republicana de estos comicios en el mismo estado.

Con un 14,7 % de las boletas escrutadas, Trump se hizo con el triunfo en Indiana, obteniendo un 76 % del voto y dejando muy por detrás a la exembajadora de EE.UU. ante la ONU Nikki Haley, su única oponente en este estado, que cosechó un 24 % de los sufragios, según proyecciones de The New York Times y The Washington Post.

Tanto Biden como Trump, que ya se garantizaron semanas atrás ser los candidatos para las elecciones presidenciales de EE.UU. el 5 de noviembre, tenían asegurados los 79 delegados demócratas y los 58 republicanos, respectivamente.

Trump solo pugnaba sobre el papel con la también exgobernadora de Carolina del Sur, a pesar de que ya se había retirado de la carrera por la nominación republicana.

Solo figuraban sus nombres en la papeleta de las primarias republicanas, donde no aparecía el de Mike Pence, exvicepresidente de EE.UU. con el propio Trump, exgobernador de Indiana entre 2013 y 2017 y también candidato retirado en su momento de la lucha por la parte republicana.

Más de 4,7 millones de habitantes repartidos por los 92 condados de Indiana estaban registrados para votar este martes en una jornada que, según la prensa local, vio cómo aumentaban los electores inscritos en hasta un 20 % durante el último mes.

Las elecciones presidenciales del próximo 5 de noviembre supondrán la primera vez desde 1912 que un expresidente y un presidente en ejercicio se enfrenten. Sin embargo, en aquella ocasión fue el gobernador de Nueva Jersey Woodrow Wilson quien finalmente derrotó al presidente William Howard Taft y al expresidente Theodore Roosevelt.
