MULTIPLE flood alerts have been put in place across Dorset.

The data from Gov.UK suggests that homeowners should be prepared to take action in the event of flooding.

Flooding is forecast to affect locations near the Lower Dorset Stour, with low-lying land expected to be most affected, particularly around tributaries between Wimborne and Christchurch.

Those at risk should consider taking action now.

River levels also remain high on the Middle and Lower Hampshire Avon.

Minor flooding is expected around Ringwood and Christchurch.

Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.

Redhill and Lower Stour have been issued a more serious flood warning and warned everyone to take action now.

The footpath along the river Stour is currently flooded, making it impassable to dog walkers and pedestrians.

The river also has a strong current running through so take care when nearby.

Although the forecast is dry for the next few days, river levels are expected to remain high.

The Government also offers advice on what to do in the event of a flood:

  • Don’t attempt to drive.
  • Move family and pets to safety.
  • Move important items upstairs or to a safe place in your property, starting with cherished items and valuables, then furniture and furnishings.
  • Turn off gas, electricity and water supplies if it’s safe to do so; never touch an electrical switch if you’re standing in water.
  • If you have property protection products such as flood barriers, or air brick covers, use them.
