Belgian giants to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs for Bafana star!

More and More overseas interest seems to be pouring in for Bafana Bafana Khanyisa Mayo star for next season.

Cape Town City striker Mayo seems to be looking beyond Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns.

It has been no secret that both Chiefs and Sundowns were interested in Mayo’s services ahead of this season. But Mayo opted to sign a long-term contract extension at City, effectively ruling out any chance of a move. The chairman of the club, John Comitis, even went as far as slapping a whopping R38 million price tag on the player. In the end, that took him out of the range of both Chiefs and Sundowns. The Brazilians are no strangers to paying even upwards of R40 million for players. But in the case of the left-footed wizard, they probably did not feel he was worth that amount.

On the side of Chiefs, their sporting director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, went onto national radio, admitting interest in Mayo. Motaung went as far as detailing a conversation with Comitis, who categorically stated that the player was not for sale. That seems to be where the pursuit ended on both sides, as the player committed himself to the City cause. Now, according to a source speaking to FARPost. The player has attracted interest from Belgian giants Club Brugge.

Mayo to snub Sundowns and Chiefs for Brugge?

“Khanyisa Mayo’s name has been discussed in Belgium at Club Brugge. The club has already made contact with Mayo’s representatives over a possible move for the next season. But the stumbling block at the moment is the asking prize from Cape Town City. I think they are asking for something around R40 000 000, which Club Brugge feels is a bit too much. Strange things happen in football; don’t rule this one out. But also Brugge is competing with one of the high spenders in South Africa which is Mamelodi Sundowns.” Said the source.

In most recent reports, it was said Chiefs were not ready to give up on their pursuit of Mayo. Sundowns on the other hand, undoubtedly have the financial muscle to sign him. But will the player’s desire to go abroad see him sign with Club Brugge instead?
