NEW DELHI: Former Maharashtra CM and Congress functionary Ashok Chavan visited party chief Mallikarjun Kharge last week, in what appeared a meeting to sound the brass about his plan to quit. He also spoke with Sonia Gandhi, it is learnt.
A loyalist and insider, Chavan was rumoured to have been planning to leave Congress for many months, but the final decision came amid indications that he was facing threat of action from the agencies. He is also learnt to have spoken to the party leadership after quitting Congress.
Meanwhile, Congress slammed BJP for “misusing the agencies against the opposition” after the ED issued fresh summons to National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah for questioning .
Several MP Congress leaders including MLAs also said that they had received income tax notices. tnn
