ipl 2024 points table: orange cap with virat kohli but royal challengers bengaluru remain last, srh at 4th
Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) run in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 went from bad to worse and the Faf du Plessis-led suffered a 25-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The visiting side rode on a brilliant century from Travis Head to register a big total of 287/3 on the board. Head smashed 102 off just 41 balls.
Chasing the target was going to be a tough task for RCB and they fell short by 25 runs. Dinesh Karthik did the job with the bat for RCB and scored 83 off just 35 balls. But his efforts were in vain and the home team lost.
All eyes were on Virat Kohli in this high-scoring game but he failed to convert his state into a big knock. The former RCB captain scored a quick 42 off 20 balls and departed just two balls after the powerplay. Kohli continues to hold the Orange Cap.
Points Table
RCB moved close to a first-round elimination from IPL 2024 following the defeat against SRH. The three-time IPL finalists have just managed one win from seven matches in the season. A team usually needs to win 7-8 matches to make it to the playoffs. RCB need to win at least six of their next seven matches to make it to the playoffs.
Pat Cummins-led SRH have 4 wins from six matches and sit at the fourth spot. They have the same number of points and wins as the two teams sitting ahead of them – Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings. KKR and CSK have a better NRR than SRH. Rajasthan Royals are at the top spot with five wins and 10 points.
Orange Cap
Virat Kohli is the only batsman with more than 300 runs in IPL 2024 and continues to hold the Orange Cap. He has scored 361 runs in the season. Kohli is followed by Riyan Parag, who has 284 runs. From SRH, Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head have entered the Orange Cap race.
Klaasen has 253 runs while Head has scored 235 runs in the season. They can make huge progress in the list should they continue their form.
Purple Cap
Yuzvendra Chahal still has the Purple Cap. He has scalped 11 wickets from six matches. Chahal is followed by Jasprit Bumrah and Mustafizur Rahman. Both pacers have 10 wickets each. From SRH, Pat Cummins is in contention for the cap. He has nine scalps in the season. For RCB, Yash Dayal tops the charts with five scalps.
