Bali, Indonesia sets new tax rules for international tourists

In a Facebook post by The Philippine Embassy in Indonesia, it confirmed that all Filipinos—or any international visitor—entering Bali, Indonesia need to pay an additional tax of IRD 150,000 or P537.98, as imposed by the Bali Provincial Government. The new rule started last February 14 and was carried out for the protection of the country’s culture and natural environment.

According to the Love Bali website, the legal basis of this tourist levy is based on Law Number 15 of 2023 concerning the Province of Bali, Bali Province Regional Regulation Number 6 of 2023 concerning Levy for Foreign Tourists for the Protection of Balinese Culture and Natural Environment, and Bali Governer Regulation Number 1 of 2024 concerning the Procedures for the Payment of the Foreign Tourist Levy.

How to pay for Bali’s Foreign Tourist Levy:

It is strongly recommended that such payments should be fulfilled before one’s departure to avoid hassle. This can be done through the Love Bali app or the website counterpart, lovebali.baliprov.go.id.

Upon entering the needed information, such as passport number, name on your passport, e-mail address, and your arrival date in Indonesia, you can then proceed to the payment method. Tax payments can be made through VISA, MasterCard, JCB, American Express, and other cards.

You will then receive a Levy Voucher through your e-mail, which you should save on your phone. This is so you can easily present your Levy Voucher for scanning when it is asked by establishments.

According to Love Bali, foreign tourists who neglect to pay the tax “will be restricted from visiting Bali,” and it may lead to administrative sanctions, i.e. verbal or written reprimand.

Who is exempted from Bali’s Foreign Tourist Levy?

There are exemptions from the Foreign Tourist Levy. If you’re a holder of a diplomatic visa and official visa, a crew of conveyances, holder of a Temporary Stay Permit Card or Permanent Stay Permit Card, a family unification visa holder, or a student visa holder, you are automatically exempted from the tax payment.

As for golden visa holders and holders of other visa types issued by Immigration, you are exempted from payment after applying and receiving the approval of the exemption.

Download the Love Bali app for iOS and Android. For more information, visit Love Bali website.
