Azmin says PN’s own survey shows ‘good shot’ at winning KKB
Azmin Ali, the Selangor PN chief, said the Indian community had welcomed PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin last night and heard him out.
HULU SELANGOR: Selangor Perikatan Nasional chairman Azmin Ali has brushed off the findings of a think tank that predicted a slim win for Pakatan Harapan at tomorrow’s Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election.
Azmin said the findings by Ilham Centre was just one of the many it received.
He said PN’s own survey showed that the opposition coalition has a good shot at winning the seat as their candidate Khairul Azhari Saut received a very positive reception, especially among the Indian community.
“But in the end, the voters will determine who emerges victorious. Which is why we are appealing for all voters here to fulfil their responsibility (by casting their ballots),” he said while on the campaign trail here.
Earlier today, Ilham Centre forecasted a PH victory at the by-election tomorrow, but expects a close contest between Pang Sock Tao of PH and Khairul.
It said the large majority of Malay voters will back PN at the polls while Chinese voters will continue to give PH their support.
Azmin said the Indian community, who form 18% of the electorate, will be kingmakers at the by-election tomorrow. He said the Indian community had welcomed PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin last night “and they heard him out when he explained our policies”.
PAS vice-president Amar Abdullah dismissed Ilham Centre’s claim that the party has been noticeably more muted in campaigning for the PN candidate.
He said the party merely adopted a different campaign strategy by going door-to-door instead of speaking at ceramahs.
“So I’m not sure where the assessment (by the think tank) came from. But maybe from their perspective we were not that aggressive because we didn’t take part in many ceramahs,” he said.
The by-election tomorrow is a four cornered contest between Pang, Khairul, Parti Rakyat Malaysia’s Hafizah Zainuddin and independent candidate Nyau Ke Xin.
