ipl 2024, kkr vs rr: avesh khan trolls sanju samson’s ‘easier to catch with gloves’ remark with epic celebration post one-hand blinder: watch
Avesh Khan pulled off one of the best catches in the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) to dismiss Phil Salt in the top-of-the table clash between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, with the star pacer’s celebration with Sanju Samson catching eyebrows.
The innings start with Salt getting a lucky break as Riyan Parga dropped a sitter on the first ball of the match, denying Trent Boult a trademark first over wicket. However, Salt was not lucky for too long, as he was dismissed for a knock of just 10 runs in 13 balls, with Avesh taking a stunning one-handed catch with his left hand in the fourth match of the match from his own bowling.
Immediately after taking the catch, Avesh pointed towards Samson and gestured for his gloves. The RR captain rushed towards the Indian pacer and handed him the gauntlet. Avesh picked up Samson’s gloves, put the ball in them, and showed it towards the dressing room.

For those unversed, Avesh’s celebration was a direct reference to a statement made by Samson after RR’s victory over the Punjab Kings on Saturday (April 13) in Mullanpur. During the game, Samson and Avesh collided while attempting a catch of Ashutosh Sharma and ended up dropping the catches. Earlier, Samson also had a collision with Kuldeep Sen while taking Atharva Taide’s catch.
After the game, Samson had made a tongue-in-cheek remark, claiming that it was easier for him to take catches with gloves in his hand.
“We had few funny instances from last year and this year. But I am really happy that everyone is eager to go and catch. I would be very sad if people are just staying away and not catching it. It gets a bit tough actually – the stadium is full of noise and when people call, we are looking at the ball, we can’t look who is coming. I need to tell my fast bowlers that it’s a bit easier to catch with the gloves instead of hands,”said Samson.
