The Colorado Avalanche used a five-goal explosion in the third period on Friday night to go up 2-1 in their Western Conference first-round playoff series against the Winnipeg Jets.

The Avalanche defeated the Jets 6-2 at Ball Arena in Colorado. Game 4 is Sunday at Ball Arena at 2:30 p.m.

Colorado wiped out a 2-1 deficit with its third-period outburst.

Nathan MacKinnon’s power-play goal 2:11 into the third tied it 2-2.

Valeri Nichushkin’s goal, also with the man advantage, was the go-ahead and winning goal.

Arturri Lehkonen, Ross Colton and Devon Toews (empty net) added goals.

MacKinnon and Toews each added an assist and Alexandar Georgiev made 22 saves.

Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck has now allowed 15 goals in the series three games.
