Autopsy due on young man killed in Drimnagh shooting
An autopsy on the young man who was killed in a shooting in Dublin is due to be carried out on Tuesday.
Gardaí are continuing to investigate all the circumstances surrounding the incident which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning on Knocknarea Road, Drimnagh.
The victim of the shooting has been named locally as 20-year-old Josh Itseli.
A teenager and two men in their early 20s who were arrested as part of a Garda investigation remain detained at Garda stations in the Dublin Region.
State Pathologist Heidi Okkers is due to carry out an autopsy on the victim.
Gardaí also confirmed that a firearm had been recovered, which will be subject to forensic examination. A number of cars have also been seized and have been taken to a secure storage facility for examination.
A statement added that all the scenes held “have now been lifted following the completion of technical examinations”.
“All roads have been re-opened.”
Gardaí are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any information received will be dealt with in the strictest confidence.
“Anyone with any information that can assist gardaí with their investigation is asked to contact Sundrive Road Garda Station on 01 666 6600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station,” a spokesperson added.
Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan said the incident was an attack on the whole community.
“People were terrified. What happened…will live on in people’s memories for a long time,” Mr Doolan, who is chairperson of the Joint Policing Committee and a local resident, said.
Justice Minister Helen McEntee also condemned Monday’s violence.
“The attack in Drimnagh last night is not something we will tolerate on our streets,” she wrote on X.
“I commend the Gardaí for responding quickly, resulting in the speedy arrest of suspects.”
The investigation is being led by a Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) from an incident room at Sundrive Road Garda Station.
