Australian Army soldiers practice battle scenarios in Darwin city

In this simulated urban battleground, these soldiers are on a mission to dismantle the enemy around every corner, a test of their tactics, resilience and leadership to neutralize the threat, detain a high value target and then extract from the location. It’s a rare glimpse into army training in an office near the centre of Darwin, carrying real weapons that fire paintball projectiles, mimicking the real thing. Stings a bit more than standard paintball get hit and the soldiers are out, at which point they’ll be be treated as a casualty as they would in the real time situation, treated by their own personnel. For many people here, this is the first taste of combat leadership and while the threat isn’t real, it certainly feels like it. Pretty exciting to be honest. Yeah, so our section can’t have the plan to come through the objective, and obviously there was a couple of obstructions on that, but have we got the job done? This is the end of an 8 week infantry course across Darwin teaching soldiers from the Army’s first brigade to lead teams in real battles. It’s essential in progressing our junior soldiers into leadership appointments and generating. The future leaders of the army war games that this soldier says have made big improvements. It’s not always calm, I guess, naturally, and had a defeat. Internal battles and communicate effectively on the battlefield, preparing soldiers for anything battle can throw at them.
