PETALING JAYA: An eight-year-old girl, who was reportedly abducted by occupants of a black car while playing in front of her house on Thursday, was found safe and unharmed later that same day.
Kuala Selangor district deputy police chief Ambia Nordin said the girl was found close to her house about one-and-a-half hours after the incident.
He said the girl’s father alerted the police, prompting immediate efforts to locate her.
“We have opened an investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001,” he said in a statement.
“The public is reminded to always keep an eye on their children outside the house during festive seasons to prevent any untoward incidents.”
According to Section 31 (1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, anyone neglecting, abandoning, or exposing a child to harm may face a fine of up to RM20,000 or imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both, upon conviction.
Earlier, a video clip depicting the apparent abduction of a girl by individuals in a black car while playing outside her house had circulated widely on social media.
