Ronald Acuña Jr. apologizes to the media
Reigning NL MVP Ronald Acuña Jr. arrived at Braves Spring Training a week early on Friday, and the first thing he did when addressing the media was a total surprise, apologizing for what happened following last year’s Game 4 of the NLDS.
To jog the memories of Braves fans, Acuña took off following the game as the Braves were eliminated from postseason contention before saying a word to the media. It was a clear moment of frustration, but a lot of members of the media did not take too kindly to it.
Listen, I get it. These athletes have responsibilities that go further than the playing field. It’s their job to speak to the media after playoff games, just like it’s their job to play the games. However, the entire situation was blown way out of proportion. Emotions get the best of all of us sometimes, and we aren’t playing in front of millions of fans with the hopes and dreams of an entire city on our shoulders. Acuña didn’t owe anybody anything, but it’s just another testament to his continued growth in the maturity department.
On top of that, the Braves right fielder told the media that he wants to remain a Brave for life.
All in all, I would say it was a pretty successful day for the only member of the 40/70 club in baseball history. If you’re still hating on Ronald Acuña Jr, and you’re not an opposing fan, that says a lot more about you than it does him.
