Vasculitis is an autoimmune disease I. E. The body’s own cells attack itself. It leads to narrowing of the arteries. Depending on the type of the vessel involved, it can cause plethora of symptoms. It can affect the heart and cause heart attack. Kidneys can be involved which can lead to hypertension and kidney failure. It can also lead to weight loss, fatigue and joint pains.

Complications of vasculitis cause both morbidity and mortality. Complications causing morbidity are destruction of paranasal sinuses, renal insufficiency, digital gangrene. Mortality causing complications include subglottic stenosis, pulmonary hemorrhage, myocardial infarction. Complications associated with treatment for vasculitis, like immunosuppressive agents, can cause morbidity.
