Blepharitis is a condition in which the eyelids are inflamed. The duration varies but in general it is considered a chronic (long-lasting) condition. That means that even if it improves, it may not have completely resolved and symptoms may soon return, lasting months or even years. For mild cases, warm compresses and eyelid washing and massage may lead to improvement within a few days or weeks. Avoiding cigarette smoke, not wearing contact lenses and avoiding allergens may help. Still, daily “lid hygiene” may be necessary even after initial improvement. A number of medications are available for more chronic or severe symptoms, including antibiotics, steroids and cyclosporine.

Blepharitis is an inflammation of the edges of the eyelids. Several diseases and conditions can cause it, so, some cases may take longer to resolve than others. In general, most treatments last for four to eight weeks. Self-care measures, such as washing your eyes and using warm compresses, might be all that’s needed for most cases. But if self-care measures aren’t enough, your doctor might suggest prescription treatments.

If proper medications are taken, it will take around 7 to 10 days to get rid of blepharitis. To manage blepharitis, one should take self-care measures like washing and cleaning eyes. Using warm compresses. Taking antibiotics in case of infection and steroid eye drops to control inflammation.
