Asda has issued a recall notice over a food item labelled with an incorrect use-by date.

The Asda Succulent Cooked & Peeled King Prawns (210g) product has been coded with the use-by date of 21 December 2024 instead of the correct date of 21 April.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has flagged the issue with the product on its website, urging purchasers not to consume the king prawn item past the April date and “to bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.”

The supermarket chain has apologised for any inconvenience caused.

A receipt is not required to get a reimbursement of the £4.55 grocery product. Those who have purchased the product have been advised to look for the barcode reading 5057172032648 or the batch number L66000.Another product recall was made in January for a children’s staple lunchbox juice item due to contamination fears. It was said there was a potential presence of “metal chemicals” in straws.

The FSA, which is responsible for protecting public health in relation food in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, has noted: “If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

“The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.”
