Arsenal and Liverpool have opened talks with the representatives of Real Madrid star Ferland Mendy over a move to the Premier League this summer.

The left-back will have just a year left on his deal at the Bernabeu this summer, and the Spaniards are minded to cash in on the Frenchman.

That’s because Real are confident of landing Bayern Munich ace Alphonso Davies, who is yet to sign a new deal at the Allianz Arena and is out of contract in 2025.

And L’Equipe claim a host of Premier League clubs are aware that Mendy is available.

Of the interested parties, Arsenal and Liverpool are said to have already initiated contact with Mendy’s representatives.

Mikel Arteta has failed to settle on a left-back this term, switching between the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Liverpool are seeking competition for Andy Robertson, who has suffered an injury-hit campaign.

But the club’s interest could be dependent upon who replaces Jurgen Klopp, as the move will need to be signed off by the club’s next manager.

Manchester United and Newcastle are also said to be interested, but Mendy is not interested in a move to the north-east.

Mendy, 28, joined Madrid from Lyon in 2019 for a fee of £42m.

He has played 112 times for the club, scoring four goals.

Mendy has nine caps for France.
