Apple may give a complete makeover to Photos, Mail, other apps with iOS 18
Apple’s annual developer conference is just over a month away and rumours about new features coming to iPhones and other devices have started to gather pace. Apple reportedly has big plans with iOS 18 this year. While a significant portion of the upcoming iPhone and iPad OS will revolve around artificial intelligence (AI), the Cupertino-based tech giant is also planning to change some native apps in iOS.
According to a report by Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is expected to revamp at least four of its system apps including new design changes and inclusion of new features. While Gurman didn’t go into specifics, many rumours previously have pointed out that the Notes App will have some key upgrades, including the inclusion of a calculator.
The Bloomberg report specifically pointed out that with iOS 18, Apple will revamp or overhaul the design of some of the most popular Apple’s built-in apps, including Mail, Notes, Photos, and Fitness. We can also expect a new calculator app for iPad OS 18, which many users have demanded in the past few years.
Previous reports have indicated that the upcoming iOS update will bring smarter Siri and AI features to apps such as Spotlight, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Keynote, and others. Additionally, we may also see new customisation features for Safari Browsing Assistant, Apple Maps, or the Voice Memos app.
iOS 18 is expected to be one of the most significant software updates, as new AI features and several design changes to the system apps will enrich the experience of iOS users. Apple is expected to preview it, along with iPadOS 18, macOS 15, and watchOS 11, during WWDC24 on June 10.
Users should also be able to install the first developer betas of these operating systems some time in June, which will give us further idea about what other features could come.
