Apl.de.Ap never forgets his Filipino roots.
Together with Geraldine Acuña-Sunshine, Founder and President, Khan Academy Philippines Inc., Diana Dig-Llave, of Accenture, and representatives of his foundation, the Black Eyed Peas member, visited the Sapang Bato National High School in Pampanga and donated 50 laptops.
The Khan Academy platform meanwhile, will offer this learning for free and will provide certificates of completion for skills mastery in computing.
Sapang Bato National High School was where the Fil-Am rapper used to go to school before moving to the US, and in Lhar Santiago’s report in “24 Oras,” Monday, Apl.de.Ap said he sees himself in the students of Sapang Bato National High School when he visited on Monday.
“I was given an opportunity and became a Black Eyed Pea and now I’m paying it forward to help kids just like me, to be able to have an opportunity, these resources to be able to compete with the world,” he said.
They were welcomed by the school teachers and students led by its Principal, Abdon Aguilar, who said the artist has always been there to help his alma mater.
“Siguro po laging nasa listahan ni Apl.de.Ap, number one lagi ang Sapang Bato National High school and I’m very glad na lagi pong ganu’n ang nangyayari at sinisiguro po namin na hindi po nasasayang ang pagkakataon na ipinagkakaloob ni Apl.de.Ap para eskwelahan lalo na for our students,” he said.
Representatives from DepEd were also present to witness this worthy collaboration including Director Marge Ballesteros, Regional 3 Director Jessie L. Amin, and Angeles City Superintendent Edgar C. Domingo.
Apl.de.Ap, whose real name is Allan Pineda, partnered with Khan Academy and Accenture Philippines to help with the school’s digital transformation.
This exciting partnership is among the strategic initiatives integrating Khan Academy’s cutting-edge education technology into the Philippine school system. Khan PH aims to grant 1 million learners across 16 regions in the country access to the Khan Academy platform in their schools by 2026 with its “1 Million Kids Khan Do It!” initiative.
Khan PH partners currently include the Gokongwei Brothers Foundation, Teach for the Philippines, Asian Development Bank, USAID-Early Learning Grade Coalition, Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Ateneo GB School of Education and Learning Design.
During his visit, Apl.de.Ap treated the students and faculty to a performance together with the Ayta Brothers, who joined the singing competition “The Voice Generations.”
Apl.de.Ap recently collaborated with Sandara Park on the song “2 Proud.” He also said the Black Eyed Peas are working on their next album.
