Andy Murray is on the entry list for the French Open boosting hopes of a timely return from the world No1.

It was revealed this week that Murray won’t need surgery after damaging his ankle ligaments at last month’s Miami Open but no timeframe has been set on his competitive return.

But the 36-year-old says he wants a final shot at Roland Garros this year before retirement, and his name on the entry list for the event, which gets under way on May 26, boosts hopes of that happening.

Murray’s last appearance at the French Open came back in 2020 where he lost in the first round.

As it stands, Emma Raducanu would either need to come through qualifying or benefit from a wildcard. Her current protected ranking is 103rd, which means she is only fifth alternate to make the main draw for the singles.

Unlike Raducanu, fellow countrywomen Katie Boulter, Harriet Dart and Jodie Burrage have an automatic route into the main draw although Burrage will be among the likely withdrawals following recent wrist surgery.

Joining Murray in the men’s main draw are Cameron Norrie, Jack Draper and Dan Evans.

Like Murray, Rafael Nadal is also bidding to put together a final season in the sport having made his return this week in Barcelona. The 14-time Roland Garros winner is also in the main field for the second major of the year courtesy of his protected ranking prior to his lengthy injury lay-off.
