Andrew Giles ‘more worried about protecting himself’ than Australians: Dan Tehan
Shadow Immigration Minister Dan Tehan has slammed Immigration Minister Andrew Giles for being “more worried” about protecting himself than the Australian people.
The High Court, on Friday, rejected a challenge by an Iranian refugee known by the pseudonym ASF17.
This means that the government will not have to release up to 170 asylum seekers from detention whose lack of cooperation is a factor in why they can’t be deported.
“A complete lack of transparency – we were told by the Albanese government that they would be working closely with state and territory authorities, that they would be working seamlessly with them to keep the Australian community safe,” Mr Tehan said during a media conference on Friday.

“They have done nothing of the sort.
“The only reason we’re getting some transparency from the government is because it has been forced out of them.
“What we’re seeing from the Immigration Minister is that he is more worried about protecting himself than he is about protecting the Australian people, and that is damning.”
