Amar Singh Chamkila trailer: Netflix drops Diljit Dosanjh-Parineeti Chopra's film's trailer

Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra starrer Amar Singh Chamkila’s trailer is finally here.

Based on the shocking rise to fame and murder of Punjab’s musical sensation, Amar Singh Chamkila and his partner who were killed by goons, will release on Netflix on April 12, 2024.

Billed as the most-awaited musical spectacle of the year, Amar Singh Chamkila is written and directed by Imtiaz Ali. The film will tell the untold story of Punjab’s original rockstar of the masses, who was the highest-record selling artist of his time and who rose from poverty to become one of the most famous names in the Indian music industry. The sheer power of his music angered many people, leading to his murder at the young age of 27 alongwith his partner.

The music has been crafted by AR Rahman with Irshad Kamil penning the lyrics. After a long time, audiences will get to hear the magic of trio – AR Rahman, Imtiaz Ali and Irshad Kamil. They will be coming together for a project after nine years.

Also, Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra have lent their voices to some of the original Chamkila songs in Punjabi.  For the first time, the film will showcase live music recordings done on locations as the lead artists, Diljit & Parineeti sing live in the Akhadaas.

Reflecting on the journey of creating Amar Singh Chamkila, Imtiaz Ali said, “Stories of young musicians that challenge the norms of society, who see unprecedented success and then have violent ends is unfortunately a worldwide phenomenon. The life and times of Chamkila raised important questions for society but ultimately it is a celebration of the life of an artist, the story of a musician who could never give up his first love – Music. In Netflix, Amar Singh Chamkila found the ideal partner who was both passionate and able to take the film to the most diverse audience.”

The film is produced by Mohit Choudhary, Select Media Holdings LLP, Saregama, and Window Seat Films. The music of the film is on Saregama.

Amar Singh Chamkila will premiere April 12.
