Actor Ali Fazal, who is known for his Bollywood and Hollywood films, has joined forces with legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam and iconic actor Kamal Haasan for the upcoming magnum opus, Thug Life. The movie marks Fazal’s maiden foray into the realm of South Indian cinema.
Fazal, who made his acting debut with the English film The Other End of the Line, went on to be part of movies like 3 Idiots, Ek Tho Chance, Fukrey, and Baat Ban Gayi. He was also part of Hollywood hits Furious 7, Death on the Nile, and Kandahar. Now, with his foray into Tamil cinema, the actor has opened a new avenue for his career.
Ali Fazal expressed his happiness on being a part of such a monumental project. In a statement, he shared his gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with luminaries like Mani Ratnam and Kamal Haasan.
In a statement, the actor said, “I am truly thrilled to be a part of Mani Sir’s vision for Thug Life. And I can only hope I bring something of significance to this canvas . It’s also an honor to work alongside the Kamal Haasan sir and share notes with him on this. The opportunity to collaborate with two stalwarts of Indian cinema has been humbling. I am deeply grateful to Mani Sir for entrusting me with this role and am eager to bring it to life on screen”.
Thug Life has already generated immense anticipation among cinephiles. Adding to the film’s star power is the musical genius of AR Rahman.
Recently, in an online interaction with Shruti Haasan, Kamal Haasan revealed that they have already finished composing a song for the film. Haasan took pride in the fact that they were able to pull it off in five hours. The actor has written the lyrics for the song as well.
The star-studded cast of Thug Life boasts an ensemble of powerhouse performers, including Abhirami, Nasser, Trisha, Gautham Karthik, Aishwarya Lekshmi, and Joju George in pivotal roles. The recent addition of Silambarasan adds another layer of star power to the mix. While Dulquer Salmaan was initially slated to join the project, Silambarasan stepped in to fill the void, further elevating the film’s ensemble. It is also said that actor Jayam Ravi, who was roped in for the project, has also backed off. Unconfirmed reports claim the makers are contemplating replacing him with Ashok Selvan.
Meanwhile, a recent leaked image from the sets in Delhi sent fans into a frenzy, offering a glimpse of the ensemble cast, including Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, Nasser, Abhirami, Vaiyapuri, and others, in what appeared to be a vibrant festival scene.
Thug Life also marks the reunion of Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam after 27 years, following their acclaimed work on the timeless classic Nayakan (1987). The movie created a lot of anticipation with the promo, which features Haasan as a warrior monk fending off death itself. The fight sequence was exclusively shot for the promotion of the film, and it is unlikely to be part of the project. Going by the promo and other details of the movie, the actor is playing the role of a gangster from the South of Tamil Nadu.
