(Bloomberg) — US aviation authorities grounded Alaska Airlines flights nationwide after a request by the company, an unusual disruption for a carrier that earlier this year suffered a mid-flight safety problem with a Boeing Co. plane.
The halt affects all of Alaska’s mainline and sub-carrier operations, according to a notice Wednesday from the Federal Aviation Administration. While the agency didn’t specify the reason, CNBC reported that it was related to an information technology issue.
Representatives of the carrier’s parent, Alaska Air Group Inc., didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.
The disruption recalls a similar ground stop issued in September for United Airlines Holdings Inc. flights after a software update caused a “widespread slowdown” in the carrier’s technology systems. In early 2023, an FAA system outage forced a nationwide grounding of aircraft.
