'alamak raya lagi' dance trend can be deemed as haram – mufti

Mohamad Sabri

KUALA TERENGGANU – Engaging in dance routines to the song ‘Alamak Raya Lagi’ during Aidilfitri celebrations, which has gained popularity among many, particularly Muslim women, may lead to religious impropriety if it involves the exposure of the performer’s aurah.

Terengganu Mufti Datuk Dr Mohamad Sabri Harun said trends done solely for social media content should be avoided as they were seen to degrade dignity and display the aurah of women.

He added such actions not only highlight negative reputations for the perpetrators but also tarnish the celebration of Aidilfitri celebrated by all Muslims.

“Such actions should be avoided because they can expose the aurah, which can lead to haram.

“Any negative actions will definitely tarnish the harmony of the Aidilfitri celebration itself,” he said when contacted by Sinar on Tuesday.

Sabri also expressed regret over the actions of Muslim communities easily influenced by current trends, to the extent of forgetting religious boundaries.

“We are saddened by our community’s tendency to trend whenever something new appears without considering whether it is positive or negative.

“In this regard, I would like to remind the community not to easily follow new cultures.

“Think first before doing something, if not, it is feared that it will lead to slander that tarnishes our harmonious culture,” he added.

The public display of dancing on social media platforms, set to the backdrop of the song ‘Alamak Raya Lagi’, has also faced criticism from various independent preachers who urged for it to be stopped as it contradicts the teachings of Islam in celebrating Aidilfitri.
