Airports buzzing as busiest time of year kicks off

Well, scenes of organised chaos have kicked off the Easter long weekend travel period at our country’s major airports. Long queues at the Jet Star check in at Sydney’s domestic terminal from 9:00 AM, but no major hiccups across the board. With 130,000 people expected to fly out of Sydney Airport today alone and 266,000 expected through the domestic terminal over the next four days, Brisbane and Melbourne airports also expected to be busy with the start of the school holidays. We’re going to the Gold Coast to see our cousins, so yeah, we haven’t seen them for, I don’t know, at least a year. Jane, we’re all checked in so yeah, smooth sailing hopefully. I’ve got a brother living in Sydney. We’ve travelled from Ireland, so we did Sydney for a week. Now we’re doing Melbourne for a week. The advice for travellers flying domestically is to arrive at least two hours before departure and at least three hours ahead for those heading overseas. The airport says it’s bracing for a longer but less busy peak period in Sydney compared to recent years due to the two week gap between the the school holidays and Easter period. The airport has prepared for the Easter exodus with extra staff on hand to direct travellers. They’re also getting into the festive spirit, handing out Easter eggs and Bunny ears.
