Kaizer Chiefs will take some encouragement from the latest update from agent Mike Makaab on the future of Manqoba Mngqithi.
Makaab issues cryptic update on Mngqithi
Football agent Mike Makaab has given an update on Manqoba Mngqithi’s future at Mamelodi Sundowns. According to Phakaaathi, the Sundowns assistant coach is happy at the club and in negotiations with the champions over a contract extension. His current deal expires at the end of the current campaign. With Chiefs still looking for a new permanent head coach, Mngqithi’s name is doing the rounds once more. The head coach post will be vacant soon when interim boss Cavin Johnson steps down and returns to his role as Head of the Academy.
Makaab has revealed that he has had discussions with Sundowns and is hoping Mngqithi’s future is still unclear:
“At the moment we are in discussions with Mamelodi Sundowns regarding the ways forward for Manqoba, I have had various discussions at a high level. I am hoping honestly that within the next two weeks it will be resolved, because at the end of it all we have to make a decision in fairness to Manqoba, we have to make a decision,” said Makaab during the Extra time show on Gagasi FM this week.
“His contract comes to an end at the end of the season, and at the end of the day he is a professional and has to seek employment, but we have had some very positive discussions,” added Makaab.

Kaizer Chiefs tried and failed
Amakhosi wanted to appoint the former Golden Arrows, Chippa and AmaZulu manager as their new head coach at the start of this season. However, Sundowns acted quickly by extending his deal by a year. However, with almost a full season having elapsed, rumours are surfacing again as the 58-year-old’s future looks far from certain.
What about Lehlohonolo Seema?
Call him the wildcard option. Look at Sekhukhune’s form in 2024 and you’ll know this guy means business.
Lehlohonolo Seems hasn’t had the glitziest jobs, but he’s built up an impressive body of work across South Africa’s football pyramid. He’s enjoyed various roles at the now-defunct Bloem Celtic, the caretaker manager tole at Black Leopards and then head coaching jobs at Chippa, Golden Arrows and Polokwane City. Sekhukhune hired Seema in November 2023. In just four months, he’s overseen nine league matches. He has five wins, three draws and one defeat in that sample. This is a SERIOUS football team. How much of their recent uptuen would you attribute to his managerial excellence?
