- Nemanja Vidic and Gary Neville both endured trophy-laden spells at Man United
- Gabriel Agbonlahor hit out at the pair and claimed they weren’t really that good
- Sir Jim Ratcliffe should target Thomas Tuchel, he’s got unfinished business – It’s All Kicking Off
Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has hit out at Man United legends Nemanja Vidic and Gary Neville.
Agbonlahor, 37, spent his whole career at Villa – apart from brief loan spells at Watford and Sheffield Wednesday – scoring 87 goals in 391 appearances.
He has since gone into punditry and is never afraid to speak his mind, with the former attacker regularly hard-hitting in regards to his opinions on talkSPORT.
And, when questioned on the radio channel on who he felt were the best defenders in Premier League history, Agbonlahor selected Vidic’s former defensive partner Rio Ferdinand along with John Terry, before slamming the ex-Serbian defender, calling him the ‘most over-rated’ centre back.
‘I’ve said it before, I didn’t find Vidic hard to play against,’ he said. ‘Whenever he came tight, I’d spin in behind him.
Gabby Agbonlahor hit out at Man United legend Nemanja Vidic, labelling him ‘over-rated’
Agbonlahor, who scored four times in 22 games against United, said Vidic wasn’t ‘hard to play’
This riled up Gary Neville, who reposted a tweet from United fan account Stretford Paddock
‘I could hold the ball up against him. Other players might say different, but that’s my opinion.’
Vidic spent eight glittering years at Old Trafford between 2006 to 2014 after joining from Spartak Moscow, winning 15 trophies in total, including five Premier League titles.
As Agbonlahor’s words circulated on social media, it sparked a response from several United fans and Neville, with the former right back reposting a tweet from United fan account ‘Stretford Paddock’.
It said: ‘So Gabby Agbonlahor has said Vidic is the most overrated defender in PL history and he didn’t find it hard to play against him. Just a reminder that Agbonlahor played #MUFC 22 times in his career and won once, couldn’t have been that easy then…’
In fact, in 22 appearances against the Red Devils, Agbonlahor scored four times and added two assists.
Agbonlahor’s words also came after he had previously snubbed Vidic for his all-time Premier League XI back in November, insisting he would be nowhere near his team as he ‘wasn’t all that’.
Agbonlahor then took aim at Neville, despite the defender playing over 600 times for United
The ex-Aston Villa forward called Neville a ‘poor player’ who was ‘lucky to be at a great club’
IT’S ALL KICKING OFF!
It’s All Kicking Off is an exciting new podcast from Mail Sport that promises a different take on Premier League football, with a show every Monday and Thursday this season.
It is available on MailOnline, Mail+, YouTube , Apple Music and Spotify
Neville was clearly riled up by the former Villa forward – who he has previous with – but Agbonlahor’s criticism didn’t stop there.
In an Instagram post by Sky Sports on Friday afternoon which showed Neville taking a penalty in 2016, Agbonlahor commented.
He said: ‘Poor player on his day. Just lucky to be at a great club.’
Neville, like Agbonlahor, was a one-club man, making more than 600 appearances for the Red Devils from 1992 to 2011, while he also won 85 caps for England.
