ADF conducts military drill exercises in Philippines
As China and the Philippines continue to clash in the South China Sea, ADF forces have joined their allies for one of Asia’s biggest military manoeuvres.
These joint drills mark one part of the US-Philippines exercise Balikatan – which means shoulder-to-shoulder in Tagalog and has brought together over 16,000 troops to learn how to fight side by side.
This year, 200 of the troops are Australian, the highest number in the exercise’s history.
The training comes as a result of an incident between China and the Philippines after a Chinese coast guard ship used a water cannon against a Filipino fisheries vessel.
