Wesley Bryan hits a tee shot on the 16th hole during the third round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans golf tournament.

The biggest stars in golf are in Hilton Head playing in the RBC Heritage, but the most fascinating story on the PGA Tour this week is happening at the Corales Puntacana Championship. Through two rounds at the Puntacana Resort & Club, a YouTuber is leading the tournament.

Wesley Bryan, a part-time PGA Tour player and full-time content creator, is 15 under after two days. He took the early lead with a 9-under 63 in the first round and followed it up with a 6-under 66 in the second round to take a one-shot lead heading into the weekend.

When Bryan isn’t playing golf on the PGA Tour, he’s playing in front of his own cameras for his YouTube channel, Bryan Bros Golf, which has nearly 350,000 subscribers. The 34-year-old creates videos with his brother, George Bryan, who made his first and only PGA Tour start at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in November, finishing in a tie for 69th.

Bryan isn’t a full-time member of the PGA Tour right now, but he’s made 114 starts in his career. He can still play in select events because he won the 2017 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, which gives him past champion status. In 19 PGA Tour starts last season, he missed the cut 11 times and recorded only two top-25 finishes. This performance truly came out of nowhere, and it even surprised Bryan.

“What I’ve been working on? Really, nothing, just filming a bunch of YouTube videos and playing golf with my brother,” Bryan told reporters after the first round when asked what he’s been practicing. “I’ve actually been losing a lot on YouTube recently, but I feel like I’ve been hitting it nice. It’s just the scores haven’t been amazing, and it’s nice to finally see a number that looks pretty good on the scorecard.”

If Bryan can hold on for a win at the Corales Puntacana Championship, it won’t just help boost his YouTube following. A victory would also punch his ticket to the PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club and give him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
