50 000 units and counting for Suzuki Auto South Africa

Suzuki Auto South Africa has confirmed its final sales figures for the financial year (April 2023 – March 2024). Almost unbelievably, 51 969 new Suzukis models were sold in that time frame. Not only does this set a new all-time record for the brand, but it’s the first time it has broken through the 50 000-unit barrier.

“We missed the 50 000 mark with the narrowest of margins in the last financial year (selling 49 576 vehicles). So, it’s with great joy that we announce our sales figure for the financial year,” says Henno Havenga, General Manager of Sales and Marketing Suzuki Auto South Africa.

The new sales record for the financial year is testament to the hard work Suzuki Auto South Africa has been doing in a difficult economic climate. It started the financial year in April 2023 with the introduction of the Suzuki Grand Vitara flagship.

This was followed by the funky Suzuki Fronx, XL6 people carrier and Jimny five-door model. Moreover, a unique event called the Jimny Gathering saw 787 South African Jimnys come together to set a Guinness World Record for the most vehicles to switch on their lights at the same time.

MULTIPLE MILESTONES

Along the way, the firm and its dealers set several monthly sales records. These include 200 000 South African Suzukis sold (achieved in July 2023), 5 249 sales in January 2024 and 4 488 vehicles sold in the short month of February 2024. As a result, Suzuki Auto South Africa is one of the only brands to have grown sales and market share in a sharply declining market.

Impressive when you consider March’s new-car market saw a massive drop of 11.3% over the same month last year. Not to forget the car industry has seen eighth consecutive months of decline. Quite how Suzuki Auto South Africa has been able to pull off such success in these trying times is almost miraculous.

“As Suzuki Auto South Africa, we are working hard to offer attractive and reliable new vehicles that are both affordable to purchase and maintain. These value-for-money offerings have proven popular with South Africans and have contributed to our continued success despite negative market conditions,” concludes Havenga.
