Wine growers have pleaded to Victorian MPs to prevent one of the nation’s leading grape regions from housing Australia’s largest solar farm.
This follows a proposal to install a solar farm on the Colbinabbin Estate in the Heathcote vineyards.
Colbinabbin wine maker John Davies said the “Cambrian soil” which is the “best soil in the state” must be preserved for producing premium value-added agricultural products.

Mr Davies told Sky News Australia these solar farms could not only affect the soil but also the aesthetics of the vineyards that attract tourism.
Whilst the energy company is consulting with the community, the power to approve the decision ultimately rests with Victorian Planning Minister Sonya Kilkenny.
