3 Potential Landing Spots for Kings' Matt Roy

Los Angeles Kings defenceman Matt Roy is a pending UFA, and all signs put to him are testing the open market and finding a new home. The question is, what team could use him? Here are three teams that may have Roy high on their list.

Toronto Maple Leafs:

The Maple Leafs are set to have a very interesting summer. After yet another first-round exit at the hands of the Boston Bruins, it seems like there are a lot of changes coming. Amidst all the changes to their core, coaching staff, and front office, they will also need to look at who is available on the open market.

Roy could be a good fit on the Maple Leafs back end. If they do bring back Joel Edmundson and can sign Roy, they will have their second and pairing defencemen locked up.

Seattle Kraken:

The Kraken are another team that needs help on the right side. They gave their team a vote of confidence and didn’t sell at the deadline, and it didn’t work out. Now it looks like Justin Schultz may be testing the market himself, which leaves the door open for Roy to fill his spot.

The Kraken can solidify their right side by adding Roy, who would join Adam Larsson and Will Borgen. All three of these players are hard to play against and will compete as hard as they can every shift, night in and night out.

Utah:

This one is interesting; I feel that a lot of players are going to want to experience Utah’s new team. Especially in their first season, there will be a ton of interest from many players on the open market. Last season, the Arizona Coyotes didn’t have the best blue line and, at the deadline, traded one of their better defencemen, Matt Dumba.

Currently, Utah doesn’t have a right-handed shooting defenceman signed. Which means they are going to be uber-aggressive to change that. Roy may be one of their targets because he is on the cheaper side and can be a solid second-pairing player. Lastly, although they weren’t teammates for long, he and Sean Durzi could be a very underrated pairing next season if he agrees to sign with Utah.
