Hafeez points fingers at players after Australia, New Zealand setbacks

The contract extension for National Team Director, Mohammad Hafeez, has hit a snag, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to delay the decision. The PCB has instructed to wait further.

Upon his arrival in Lahore, Hafeez engaged in a crucial meeting with the Interim Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and Election Commissioner Shah Khawar, with Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer also present.

Sources reveal that during the meeting, Hafeez presented a detailed analysis of the team’s recent shortcomings in Test series against Australia and T20I series against New Zealand, providing valuable insights and recommendations for future improvements.

The 43-year-old also stated that the players’ focus on the game was lacking, as their primary attention was directed towards participating in the ongoing T20 leagues associated with the franchise.

The discussion also delved into the extension of Hafeez’s expiring one-month contract, which remains pending.

The PCB, seeking guidance from the Inter-Provincial Ministry, is expected to make an official announcement regarding the extension in the near future. However, a noteworthy development is the Ministry’s current directive restraining the board from offering long-term contracts.

The meeting between Shah Khawar and Hafeez lasted for approximately half an hour, during which critical aspects of the team’s performance and the future course of action were discussed. Additionally, Mohammad Hafeez held a separate meeting with Salman Naseer, further emphasizing the importance of the ongoing deliberations.
